This Quarter's Beers

Grey Monday (2021)

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
ABV: 19%

Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with hazelnuts Inspiration can come from unexpected places. Initially created for a gastronomy dinner in 2012, Grey Monday was an appreciative complement to our hosts' epicurean craft. An ease to the Monday blues, this decadent treatment of Black Tuesday features Oregon-grown hazelnuts. Toasty and nutty characters play off bold yet smooth complexity in this bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. Pair with inspiration to evolve your craft this week! 750-ml. Bottle Access Level: Hoarders, Reserve, Preservation

Pasas Picasso

Double Barrel-Aged Ale
ABV: 19.1%

Double barrel-aged ale with raisins, vanilla beans, and cinnamon We believe that beer is part science and a big part art. Pasas Picasso was inspired by Rum Raisin ice cream, which in turn originated from the European dessert Malaga. Oh yeah, Picasso was from the city of Malaga in Spain, get it? Pasas Picasso was aged in bourbon barrels for one year before being transferred to rum barrels for an additional year. It exudes rich raisin and barrel character backed by creamy vanilla and just a hint of spice. 750-ml. Bottle Access Level: Hoarders, Reserve

Rum Barrel-Aged Tart of Darkness

Barrel-Aged Sour Stout

Double barrel-aged sour stout aged in bourbon barrels followed by rum barrels Tart of Darkness is our sour stout aged in oak. Brewed to resemble a stout at its foundation, the journey into tartness begins with fermentation in large oak puncheons at Bruery Terreux, where it’s treated to a special blend of souring bacteria and wild yeast cultures. Following a slow but wildly active fermentation, the beer is transferred for extended aging into used oak barrels including emptied bourbon barrels from The Bruery that previously held Black Tuesday.  For this special edition, we aged the beer for another year in rum barrels sourced from Martinique. 750-ml. Bottle Access Level: Hoarders, Reserve, Preservation

Oude Tart with Boysenberry

Flemish-style Red Ale
ABV: 9.3%

Flemish-style red ale age in oak barrels with boysenberry A classic style with history rooted in the Flanders region of Belgium, this Flemish-style red ale was treated with a generous portion of boysenberries and aged in oak barrels for a perfect balance of berry tartness, dark fruit, and toasty oak characters. Though the style may be “old,” the classics remain timeless. 750-ml. Bottle Access Level: Hoarders, Reserve, Preservation, Public

The People Have Spoken

Been a member of the Preservation Society for years and with the creation of Offshoot Beer company more reasons to visit.

This place is a must stop for any lover of beer. I recently became a preservation soscirty member, to get my feet wet in the Bruery pool, and I'm already regretting not going bigger. I'm in love with this place. Went out of my way to stop in on the way from SLO to San Diego.

The fiance and I became members of the preservation society last year. If you are a fan of great beers, I highly recommend you to do the same.

Let us lay out the FAQs

Select West if you plan to pick up at our location in CA or you plan to ship your beer within CA. Choose East if you’d prefer to pick up in D.C. or ship to one of our shipping-eligible states – D.C., ND, NH, OH, PA, VA, and VT.

Why the difference? Your choice of West or East determines where your product is shipped from due to shipping rates, inventory, and other logistics. This helps save you (and us) time and money so you can enjoy your beer faster.

We make a LOT of beer, and we want to make sure you’re getting access to your favorites! If you prefer to stick to barrel-aged stouts, barleywines, ales, and the like, Barrel-Aged is for you. If you’d like some tart and funky options mixed in with the barrel-aged stuff, choose Mixed.

What if I want more? Your choice of Barrel-Aged or Mixed only determines your included beer (1 bottle per month for Reserve Society, up to 2 bottles per month for Hoarders Society). You still have access to purchase additional bottles from that month’s releases, from which you can get whatever sounds best!

In short, we are adjusting our offerings to keep up with demand of styles and preferences. Our wild and sour ales from The Bruery - Terreux aren’t going anywhere, but we are scaling back production to allow more focus on fewer, more select sour and wild beers in the future. If you’re wanting sour and wild ales included in your membership, then the Mixed option is the way to go.

There are many ways to get your beer. Each month, when the new releases are ready, they will be added to your virtual cellar within your account at

Selecting your beer(s) for fulfillment via Pickup or Shipping is easy. Navigate to your account, then to your cellar and place any cellared items in your cart. From there, proceed through checkout and select your preferred fulfillment option.

    • Virginia – 2 CEs per month per customer
    • Pennsylvania – 192 oz per month and 96 oz per brand per month
    • New Hampshire – the equivalent of 12 750ml bottles per month, per customer.
    • North Dakota – 288 oz. per month, per customer

    • Virginia – the equivalent of two cases per month, per customer

Simply put, no. We'd love to accommodate; however, due to the limited nature of these beers, we are unable to change your preference type for included bottles in the middle of the year. That being said, most beers are available to purchase even if they're not included in your membership.

Absolutely! All you need to do is include their name in the email you send to or, otherwise you can list them in the order notes field while placing an order on the online store.

Guest access cards grant the holder the same privileges as a member in our Tasting Rooms and the Washington D.C. store. That means whoever has your guest access card will receive your member discount along with member access. Hoarders receive 2 guest access cards, while Reserve members receive 1.

We plan to release one included bottle per month, at minimum. You can check which bottles are included and when by logging into your account clicking on the "included" tab.

Your included bottles will automatically populate in your cellar as soon as they are available to you. To view your cellar, just log in to your account, and click on "my cellar" to see which beers are available to ship or pick up.

Each month we release a flurry of new beers, with members always getting first dibs. Your allocations are just the number of bottles or cans allocated to you as a member to purchase. Until it's sold out, you have the access to buy the allocated number of each beer, throughout the month. These beers are typically Society-exclusive releases, member-only presales on limited distribution beers, special archives pulled out from our cellar, or first access on returning favorites.

No, you will need to cancel your Preservation Society membership when you join the Reserve Society— unless you’d like to keep both memberships (many members do this so you get discounted access to the quarterly packs in addition to your included & society-specific monthly releases!)
